Did you know those who begin to actively participate in addiction, whatever it may be, alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, love or any other type of compulsive behavior, stop growing emotionally. This is called arrested emotional development (AED).
Trauma can also cause AED. I know in my case, I had trauma in my teen years and it negatively impacted my emotional growth and ability to communicate my emotions in a positive manner.
How does this affect our relationship connections with those around us prior to healing or recovery? Obviously during our seeming functioning with addiction it makes relationships difficult and sometimes irrational and almost impossible to operate within (for both those who are addicted and those who care for them).

This is called codependency…or love addiction. They think this type of control is to make the addict better, and often it makes the relationship worse.
It often enables the addicted person to not reach a bottom and have the possibility of getting well or a complete divorce from the situation. The addict wants to separation themselves from those who try to hold them accountable so they can continue to nurture their addiction. They characteristically want those who will enable them around during the addiction process...
